“Solo III”
“Solo III” is a recital in which free improvisation encounters the complete freedom of a concert hall, the atmosphere of a classical music festival, and ideas heard only seconds earlier in previous concerts within the same programme. At the same time, there is room for world premieres and first performances of works by great composers from the world of jazz, such as one of tonight’s pieces, composed by the acclaimed American saxophonist Greg Osby. All these worlds come together in free form, in total improvisation, even when following a pre-conceived idea. We do not know where we will begin, where we will arrive, or even how any musical gesture will end. Experimentation, listening and chance itself become a single entity. This cycle of recitals began in 2019 at the Centro Cultural de Belém, later passing through France, at the prestigious Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, in 2023, and giving rise to two albums already released, “Solo I” and “Solo II”, respectively. Both recordings have been highly acclaimed by international critics.
