CATARINA BUCHO
DOMINGOS BUCHO
The Square, the Pillory and the “Town Houses”; and how Marvão was seen by the outsiders who passed through here in the 17th century
Let us look at the town and its governance, in the midst of the War of Restoration. Let us recall the Couto of Homiziados and how it functioned; and what the outsiders who visited this place had to say, describing it as “more suited to birds’ nests than to the habitation of men.”
Meeting point: Pillory Square
DRAWING CLASS
by Luci Eyers
EVERY DAY FROM MONDAY TO FRIDAY
10.00 – 13.00
These drawing workshops have two intentions: to look more closely at Marvão through drawing, as we wander, look, and listen; and to consider ways of translating between sound and a visual form of mark making.
In the first half of each workshop we will amble through part of the town notating visual details that catch our attention and listening to the ambient sounds.
Back in the Casa da Cultura we will work with a musician to develop a range of visual responses to match their instrument and the range of sounds they play. The aim is to develop intuitive visual impressions rather than any literal notation.
Through these drawing exercises we can explore different ways a pencil can be used to respond to the landscape and soundscape through sketching, notation, and mark making.
Maximum participants per class: 8
Materials will be provided / No experience necessary / Participants over 16 years old.
Free participation upon registration on

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Luci is a painter and educator, and director of Eye to Pencil – an interdisciplinary drawing school in London. She studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, graduating with the Henriques Scholarship. In 2012 she participated in the studio programme at Turps Art School, afterwards mentoring there.
She works predominantly in watercolour with images sourced from her imagination, however looking at drawing in its widest sense has always been an important part of her practice. Drawing and a sense of line are core to her work.
