MARVÃO FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA
LENA NEUDAUER, violin
CHRISTOPH POPPEN, conductor
Continuing this successful project, the Marvão International Music Festival (FIMM) is offering again to music students and experienced amateur players from all over the world the possibility of joining members of a professional orchestra (Cologne Chamber Orchestra), to work together and perform in a final concert, included in the festival’s programme.
The Marvão Festival Orchestra is open to musicians of all ages and nationalities and will take place during the 7th edition of FIMM. Götz Hartmann will be the assistant conductor for the orchestra rehearsals and Christoph Poppen, artistic director of FIMM, will conduct the final concert.
Although there is no formal requirement to be of a certain standard to take part, musicians wishing to join the Festival Orchestra should consider the programme to ascertain whether they feel they will be able to participate fully in this project. Please include a link for an audio or video of your playing, together with your application.
Sheet music for this programme will be provided and sent early enough to give time to practice in the weeks before the concert.
Application / Admission Fee: €100
The Marvão Festival Orchestra has an estimated cost of several hundred euros per person, which includes the payment of copyrights, fees, consumables, costs for international travel and other transportation, rental of equipment and other materials, human resources and logistics. This amount is fully supported by the sponsors and patrons of the festival, which make this unique project possible.
Participants to the Orchestra will be charged a one-time application fee of €100, which is non-refundable, and only after their admission is confirmed. All participants are responsible for the full costs of their travels, accommodation and food. The festival organisation will provide all the participants with transportation between the rehearsals (Castelo de Vide) and the concert venue (Valencia de Alcántara, Spain).
The rehearsals will take place in the morning, so that you have the possibility to visit afternoon and evening concerts of the Festival. All MFO members are entitled to one free ticket for family and friends for their own concert (August 07th) and also benefit from 50% discounted single tickets for themselves to attend other concerts of the festival (subject to availability).
