After the pilot project “Carmina Burana”, in 2019, the Marvão International Music Festival (FIMM) joins the newly founded Marvão International Academy for Music, Arts and Sciences to organise the festival chorus again, made up of professional and amateur singers from all over the world.
The Marvão Festival Chorus is open to singers of all ages and nationalities, taking place during the 7th edition of FIMM and performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 “Ode to Joy”.
Hong Kong Sinfonietta, members of the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and several soloists will be joining the project. Pedro Teixeira will direct the choir rehearsals and Christoph Poppen, artistic director of FIMM, will conduct the final concert.
Anyone wishing to join this project will be welcome. There is no formal requirement other than the ability to read musical scores and some experience in choral singing.
Sheet music for this programme will be provided and sent early enough to give time to practice in the weeks before the concert.
Application / Admission Fee: €75
The Marvão Festival Chorus has an estimated cost of several hundred euros per person, which includes the payment of copyrights, fees, consumables, costs for international travel and other transportation, rental of equipment and other materials, human resources and logistics. This amount is fully supported by the sponsors and patrons of the festival, which make this unique project possible.
Participants to the Chorus will be charged a one-time application fee of €75, which is non-refundable, and only after their admission is confirmed. All participants are responsible for the full costs of their travels, accommodation and food. The festival organisation will provide all the participants with transportation between the rehearsals (Portalegre) and the concert venue (Ammaia, Marvão).
The rehearsals will take place in the morning, so that you have the possibility to visit afternoon and evening concerts of the Festival. All MFC members are entitled to one free ticket for family and friends for their own concert (July 31st) and also benefit from 50% discounted single tickets for themselves to attend other concerts of the festival (subject to availability).
